You only need a server with php and MySQL - most web hosting providers provide such tools in their standard offer. You may also install PhpWebGallery on a server (e.g. Apache) on your personal computer, but you don't have to. Then just follow those simple steps:
You're all set!
You can find more detailed instructions in the Wiki.
A system of combined templates and themes allows for a full customization of the information layout and styling based on html template files (TPL) and cascading stylesheets (CSS).
PhpWebGallery comes with English and French as standard languages. Other languages can be downloaded (currently: Argentinian Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and Swedish).
Create a folder on your server, FTP your images, click on Synchronize in the admin interface: you are done. Your images will appear neatly filed in a new category named after the folder. Thumbnails can be automatically generated, or you can upload your own. EXIF and IPTC metadata are automatically recognized.
PhpWebGallery can handle more than pictures, but any kind of files. You can then integrate videos, PDF files, sounds, documents, whatever.
Folders and subfolders on your server generate categories. In addition, you can file an image into as many virtual categories as you want. Last, you may assign tags to each image. The admin interface allows for an easy management of your images, categories and tags.
Categories can be marked as private and access rights can be assigned on a per-user or group of users basis. Categories can also be locked for maintenance purposes.
You can also use an external users database, often found in scripts such as a forum, a blog, or a CMS.
All releases and builds are downloadable in the dedicated download area. In addition to archives listed below, you'll find MD5 sums of archives, letting you control whether your download succeeded or not.
