PhpWebGallery’s (PWG) forum code of conduct

Forum have grown tremendously over the last years and have introduced new behaviours, we propose a general code of conduct inspired by the netiquette.

The purpose of these rules is to clarify the way forum should be used. The forum has for goal to answer quickly and without ambiguity and avoiding change management errors and redundancies (within questions or answers).

General rules

Never forget that often when you discover a problem, someone else may have already encountered it and else one will certainly observe it (all of you will be glad to find easily a topic, thank to the clear topic title and respect of discussion subject). Topics may also be about general questions, there is not only bugs in PhpWebGallery.

  1. First of all, perform a quick search for a subject of interest in forum, or Wiki, and maybe have a look at Google. Now, bear in mind:
  2. Choose precise title for your topic
  3. DON’T SHOUT.
  4. Don’t advertise, don’t spam or troll.
  5. Be concise, but not short.
  6. Write in language that other people can understand (all members aren’t native English speakers).
  7. Avoid euphemistic or hyperbolic terms, as pretentious language or colloquial.
  8. Choose figurative language carefully and metaphors and smilies judiciously
  9. Avoid clichés
  10. Use foreign words only if they are familiar to anyone.
  11. Use a soft signature. Personal website link is tolerate but it should be related to PhpWebGallery. Other personal links could be placed in “introductions and testimonials” topics.
  12. Any signature or avatar that are offensive or insulting to either us, our members, or our staff, are prohibited. We can change and/or remove them at any time.
  13. Avoid animated avatars.
  14. Quote only what you are referring to.
  15. Read few topics before asking “old” questions.
  16. Never use several nicknames in order to act as if you were different forum members.
  17. Don’t use too many smilies in your posts. Don’t use smilies to excuse rudeness. There’s no excuse for that kind of behavior.
  18. Avoid using SMS writing or slang in your post if you want to be understood and make people willing to answer you.
  19. Avoid using your real name as your nickname. Avoid using even the name of a friend. Avoid leaving e-mail address, or password in a post.
  20. Please feel free to correct our expression or grammar faults, but courtly, friendly, and unsystematically. Intended for non-native speakers of English to progress.
  21. Registration is free, registered or not you must accept our forum rules.
  22. Registered members have to be aware of unregistered contribution and their recent links.
  23. Becoming a member: you will be perceived as a valuable person.
  24. Avoid fast reply can help you to soften sensitive topics, please sometimes take a day-off.
  25. Duplicate topics: take care of dates, old topics are probably incorrect. Solutions could be different between versions. In previous cases, open a new topic.
  26. Try and stick to the initial intent, inline with the topic title. Intent to deviate the topic will be strongly discouraged.
  27. Respect each other. Do not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. All IP addresses are only recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. Webmasters, administrators and moderators have rights to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. So use your common sense. You agree to any information you have entered is being stored in a database.
  28. Without your consent, information will not be disclosed to any third party.
  29. Webmasters, administrators and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

Thanks.
